Zone of the Enders HD Collection

A couple of years back I had posted an article on the old BlogSpot version of Insert Controller. The article was about the speculation of there being a Metal Gear Solid HD remake, and in the article I mentioned a few titles I would have liked to have their own, amongst them was Zone of the Enders.

One day whilst checking my email I had seen that I had a tracked update from Game Spot with news regarding Zone of the Enders, I was curious so I clicked it and had a read. With much surprise and all those gooey, joyous feelings I’d read that Konami had announced the Zone of the Enders HD collection for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Zone of the Enders was originally released as a release title for Sony’s PlayStation 2 and has since earned itself a sequel and an anime series called ZOE: Delores. With a huge fan base waiting eagerly for a third instalment, series director Hideo Kojima decided that he would wet their lips with a HD remake, he later announced  that the much awaited third instalment to the series was on its way. Zone of the Enders HD Collection was to hit store shelves worldwide by Christmas 2012.

Here I am 7 months later having finally bought a copy, even though I own the two games on the PlayStation 2 anyway, but I’m guessing most of you do to, right? Right? Okay so I know it is inevitable that some of you haven’t played Zone of the Enders yet, and you probably want to know what it is all about.

Zone of the Enders is a fast based action game with great controls, beautiful graphics and amazing gameplay. The first game is based on a space colony orbiting Jupiter. You play as Leo, a young boy who fled into a factory during a terrorist attack on his colony, within he accidentally stumbles into the cockpit of Jehuty, a highly advanced mecha suit also known as an Orbital Frame. From here Leo makes it his goal to find his friends and family and make sure they are safe, but things are never that easy, instead Leo is forced to fight against the terrorist threat and rid the colony of their evil.

The second game is based two years after the events that occurred in the first, you play as Dingo Egret, an ice minor who discovers Jehuty on the Calisto, one of Jupiter’s moons. After Dingo has discovered Jehuty Calisto comes under threat by an evil organisation named BAHRAM. Dingo later gets captured by BAHRAM and learns of a sinister plot to activate a battle station capable of destroying pretty much anything in his path, while in captivity he also meets a UNSF spy who helps him escape under the condition that he helps their cause. As you progress through the game you meet Leo, the protagonist from the first game, he tells you of how Jehuty ended up on Calisto and of his past, he then joins you and together you fight to stop BAHRAM from completing their evil plans.

I personally love the Zone of the Enders series and have done since 2003, when I first picked up a copy from Game Station when the new store opened up in my town. I was amazed when I figured out it was a Kojima title too, I always wondered what they Z.O.E. box was all about in Metal Gear Solid 2.

So what does the Zone of the Enders HD collection bring to the table? High Definition graphics, sounds and a much larger resolution, but what does it really give us? It gives us a chance to relive the experience all over again, updated with HD sounds and graphic, on a console that is not in our attics or under our beds, and now on a console that is portable, the PlayStation Vita.

Both games offer many ours of gameplay, tons of action and adventure and a great story filled with twists and emotional explosions. If you’re a fan of the Mecha genre then Zone of the Enders is most definitely for you! If you have already played Zone of the Enders and you’re deciding whether not to get the HD collection simply take a look at some Let’s Plays on YouTube, if you’re daring then get the HD Collection and see for your self, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

As always, it is a pleasure to have you here reading our articles and don’t forget that if it aint our theme then it aint us, please don’t fall into the trap of believing we are plagiarising or ripping off some Americans, if you’re a long time reader then you will know we are the real deal.
